■ Restock Information

The Matcha Bowl and Takayama Chasen included in this kit have proven incredibly popular. Because each piece is carefully handcrafted by artisans, production is limited, and we are currently unable to meet demand. While we can't confirm an exact restock date, the next restock date is currently undecided.

At YUGEN, we offer a curated matcha selection tailored to every occasion—from formal Usucha and Koicha to everyday use. In addition to the traditional chasen method, you can also easily enjoy an authentic matcha latte at home using a standard whisk or frother. While waiting for the kit, we invite you to explore our matcha lineup to find the perfect fit for your lifestyle.

Contents

◆ Matcha Bowl
◆ Takayama Chasen (Black Bamboo Whisk or White Bamboo Whisk)
◆ Chashaku (Smoked Bamboo or White Bamboo)
◆ Matcha #1 YUGEN Original Blend (30g)

This original kit brings a quiet moment of tea into your daily life. Crafted with Mashiko-yaki artisans, the bowl helps beginners whisk matcha beautifully. Its ideal depth prevents splashing, while the clay protects the delicate bamboo tines. This foundation maximizes the Takayama chasen’s flexibility, easily creating a fine, creamy foam.

The bowl's true charm lies in holding it gently to savor the matcha. The comforting warmth and smooth rim elevate the experience, offering a beautiful contrast between the earthy clay and vibrant green tea. Included is Matcha #1, harmonizing a rich aroma, refined umami, and a hint of astringency. Adapting beautifully to both usucha and lattes, it ensures an authentic matcha experience.

※The fine lines visible on the inside of the Matcha Bowl are not cracks, but a feature known as *kannyu*, which appears on the surface of the glaze due to the difference in shrinkage between the clay body and the glaze after firing, and is not a defect or damage, but rather a natural characteristic of the piece, so please feel assured that you can use it with confidence.

・Hand-Picked and Slowly Ground

Usucha is the most familiar style of matcha, prepared by whisking the tea with hot water using a bamboo whisk. It is called usucha, or “thin tea,” because it is made with a larger amount of water, and the expression “to whisk” is closely tied to this traditional way of preparing matcha. Easy to incorporate into daily life, usucha is also valued for how approachable and enjoyable it is.

■ Recommended Preparation for Usucha

Matcha: 3.5 g
Hot water (80°C / 176°F): 70 ml

■ Takayama Chasen: A 500-Year Tradition

The fine foam and smooth texture are brought to life by the Takayama Chasen, a traditional bamboo whisk carrying over 500 years of history from Takayama, Nara.

Skilled artisans split and shave a single piece of bamboo to extreme thinness by touch alone. Because every step is meticulous handwork, our monthly supply is naturally limited. However, this unmatched flexibility—impossible for machines to replicate—elevates the tea's flavor, proving its worth as an authentic, lifelong tool.

The natural feel of the bamboo and the quiet, brushing sound against the bowl create a deeply calming moment—an experience only a carefully crafted tool can provide.

Uji Matcha Series

We offer four varieties, from #0 to #3. The higher the number, the finer the grade—bitterness becomes more mellow, while umami and sweetness deepen. The aroma grows richer, and the color becomes more vibrant.
