Kuyuri
“I burn wax onto the surface of the glass and let the smoke leave its marks. In those vague, uncertain traces of burning, I sometimes find a natural landscape, free of any intention. I hope to make pieces with that kind of feeling, where the trace left by fire resonates with someone’s inner landscape.” – Aki Sakaida

As Sakaida describes, each piece has its own gently shifting scenery and color, like a landscape found in nature. We hope you will enjoy not only the surface, but also the contrast with the different scenery seen on the inside.

Aki Sakaida is a glass artist based in Akita, in northern Japan. The surface of each Kuyuri piece carries faint, smoky traces left by wax burned onto the glass, like a quiet landscape.
Each piece is one of a kind; the markings and the shape differ from piece to piece.
