Oval Tray C - YUGEN

An original YUGEN tray, made together with a woodworker in Kyoto.
Use it as a serving tray or a tea tray, however suits you.

It is made from the root burl (nemoku) of Japanese cedar (sugi), a wood used in Japan since ancient times. The wood is left out in the rain for a long period and exposed to direct sunlight, which gives it a quiet, weathered finish.
With long use the color fades further and the wood takes on a beautiful whiteness.

Nemoku (root burl)
The part of the tree near the roots, where the grain runs in irregular patterns.
A wood also used for the ceilings of shrines and temples.
