【 Artist Profile 】
Artist: Nobuhiko Oyama
Origin: Aichi, Japan
Medium: Ceramics

1967 Born in Kumamoto, Japan
1992 Completed training at Tokoname Ceramic Art Institute
1996 Built his own kiln and studio in Tokoname

Based in Tokoname, Aichi Prefecture, Oyama discovered his passion for ceramics during university and went on to study at the Tokoname Ceramic Art Institute. He established his studio in Tokoname in 1996.

Working with raw clay that he digs and prepares himself, Oyama creates pieces that blend the gentle surface of kohiki (white slipware) with the natural strength and warmth of the earth. His work reflects a way of life grounded in harmony with nature, capturing a quiet rusticity and depth of character.

Guided by a philosophy of expressing his true self through each piece, Oyama's ceramics are meant to be used over time. As they age, their textures and tones evolve, deepening in beauty and bringing a sense of warmth and presence to everyday life.
