Atsushi Ogata / 尾形 アツシ
After establishing his own studio in Seto, Aichi Prefecture—an area renowned for its long history of pottery—he began creating vessels that showcase the natural texture and vitality of unrefined clay. In 2007, he relocated his workshop to the rural town of Uda in Nara Prefecture, where he continues to fire his works using both a traditional climbing kiln (noborigama) and a gas kiln.
His signature style, known as Shirohibite ("white crackle glaze"), is characterized by delicate surface crackles that form as the glaze contracts during firing. By using unprocessed clay, he achieves a rich variety of earthy tones and a rustic, organic finish that reflects the inherent beauty of the material.
