Pâte de Verre Vase (Grey) - Mayuko Ogawa
Mayuko Ogawa Pâte de Verre Vase, Grey
Pâte de verre
Said to be the oldest glass technique in the world, pâte de verre originated in ancient Mesopotamia and was long thought to be lost.
A model is first made in clay or wax and a mould taken from it. The mould is packed with a paste of powdered glass and binder (the "verre"), fired in the kiln mould and all, cooled slowly, and then broken away to release the glass, which is finally ground and polished. It is an exceptionally time-consuming process.
